Renault India is coming up with a compact SUV based on the CMF-A architecture platform also shared by the Nissan Magnite. World launch held on 28th January, the Kiger is the 3rd global car which is first to be launched in India and then to other countries around the globe. Both the Indian team and the French team from Renault office combined their efforts to make Kiger. With the French carmaker promising that the production model would be 80% similar to the concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, how exactly is the upcoming Kiger? Let us find out.
Kiger, as expected will share the same engine with Magnite, the 3 cylinder naturally aspirated manual petrol which produces 71bhp of power and 96nm of torque along with a 3 cylinder turbocharged engine which produces 98bhp of power and 160nm of torque combined with AMT and CVT transmission choices.
As directly taken from the concept car showcased by Renault, the 3 part split halogen headlights placed prominently on the front bumpers and the eyebrow design LED DRL placed below the bonnet, “C” shaped tail lights at the back and sculpted body panels gives a stunning crossover design with a combination of both smart and sporty elements with class leading ground clearance of 210mm. Instead of 19inch alloy wheels, the production model will have 16inch steel and diamond cut alloy wheels. The interior boasts a dual tone theme with fabric seats, the rear seat passengers get vents for the air conditioner and 12V socket. The C pillar of the Kiger is sloping but it doesn’t affect the interior space for the passengers and would prove comfortable for long trips.
The list of features and tech include an 8 inch infotainment screen which supports Android auto and AppleCarplay. Auditorium 3D sound system through 4 speakers and 4 tweakers from Arkamys. Other features include wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, keyless entry and highly required in today’s world – PM2.5 Clean air filter.
As promised, the upcoming Renault Kiger is very close to the concept, going for sale from mid – 2021 against Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Vitara Brezza and Nissan Magnite itself, Kiger is expected to be priced very aggressively. Offering the same engine as that in the Nissan Magnite and having a bulgy stance thanks to its ground clearance and big bonnet, the Kiger has surely managed to grab attention.
