Volkswagen introduced its T-Roc at the Auto Expo 2020 to be brought to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and sold as a single fully loaded variant for ₹19.99lakhs ex-showroom Delhi under the homologation – free quota scheme. The first batch came early in Q2 2020, it got massive response from buyers across India that it was sold out within 40 days. So what did the T-Roc offer that it caught everybody’s eyes and became an instant hit, let us find out.
T-Roc came with only 1 engine option, the 1.5L TSI EVO petrol, 4 - cylinder with 7-speed automatic DSG which produces 150hp and 250nm of torque resulting in 0-100km/h in 8.4secs and a top speed of 205km/h. This BS VI engine has ARAI claimed mileage of 16km/l along with impressive driving dynamics thanks to Volkswagen’s famous DSG which is admired by everyone.
With 4342mm length, 1819mm width and 1573mm height the T-Roc falls behind than its rivals as far as dimensions of the car go. Under the sub 4-meter compact SUV segment the T-Roc should have been more high and wide. 6 color options to choose and black roof which comes standard and gives a dual tone exterior look. Sharp line and sloping C pillar gives an aggressive and sporty look of a crossover or hatchback rather than SUV. The front profile of the car gets LED headlamps and LED DRL’s on the bumper which also double up as turn indicator, single stretched chrome strip beautifully placed above the bumper. Over the back there is LED taillights and fake exhausts complimenting the sporty look. 17inch diamond cut alloy wheels combined and roof rails is the cherry on top.
The interior of the car is as how Volkswagen cars are supposed to be, robust materials and hard touch plastics. The tri-color upholstery on the seats with good lumbar support that sits you tight. Both the gear shift knob handle and flat bottom steering wheel are leather wrapped. The rear seat passengers have A/C vents, not much legroom and height for tall passengers, best fit for 2.
The list of features in this one is large, covering all aspects of daily life comfort and luxury one needs. 8inch infotainment screen and 6 speakers premium sound system, heated front seats, 2 zone climate controls, panoramic sunroof, digital cockpit, paddle shifters, keyless entry and drive system are few of the features which make the T-Roc a techy car. For the benefit of an easy drive it gets heated convex exterior mirrors and windshield, rain sensing vipers, auto dimming interior rear view mirror, rear fog lamps and front fog lamps with cornering function.
The T-Roc is also loaded with safety features including 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat, hill start assist, anti – skid regulation and park distance control front and rear. There is no safety testing done in India as the T-Roc came under the Homologation free scheme but it is built on the same MQB platform as is the Tiguan. With a good performing engine and a big list of features and tech, yet still lacking in dimensions the T-Roc has made a huge impact on the car buyers which is evident by the sale numbers, with the next batch coming in Q2 2021 already being booked full, the T-Roc has successfully made a fan base in the hearts of enthusiasts.
